A Year of Rebozos
This project explores identity, heritage, and the relationship between the body and cloth. Each month I photograph myself with a different rebozo, a garment woven into the daily and emotional lives of Mexican women for generations. The work is part cultural inquiry, part personal practice. Twelve months. Twelve rebozos. Twelve words.
January
January is not a month of new beginnings. Contrary to the popular customs of New Year's Resolutions, for me, January is a month to go inward. A month of stillness and rest. A time for the quiet work of reassessment that the world rarely makes room for. These images were made in a forest stripped bare by winter, wrapped in a rebozo the color of earth and dried grass. The first rebozo.
